Myofuctional Therapy Success Story

This testimonial was sent to us from a mother and son who are currently in therapy after having tongue tie release procedures performed by Dr. Heather Carpenter:

Hi Amanda & Dr. Carpenter,

I wanted to start out by saying, "Thank you" for being so patient with us, holding our hand through the enter process, answering all my questions, and holding us accountable for the work we need to do to make this a success. I truly appreciate all your knowledge and work with us. I'm happy we made the commitment to do the myofunctional therapy and tongue tie release. I can't believe the outcome of the results we had. They were simply amazing even just the short few weeks of myofunctional therapy before the release. It's hard to fathom that such a small thing, such as closing your mouth and breathing through your nose can make such a big impact on someone, which my son started to accomplish after week two. We started noticing his mouth was closed more often while watching tv and even sleeping. "WHAT, that's crazy", he's been in speech since the age four and is now ten, this was never suggested to us that this could be an option for us, nobody ever looked at his tongue's resting position before or that him not breathing properly could be part of the cause of his speech development. I will say, the procedure doesn't go without pain, we had this done together and I can say he handled it way better than I did. I can say that on the drive home it all of a sudden dawned on me that I could actually move my head to the side and fast, like it took no extra effort at all, my head was weightless all of sudden and fast (haha). I thought, ``How can my head move this fast and feel this light", is it possible that it loosened this quick? As the next few days went on and the pain as well, there were so many changes I was noticing in myself as an adult in her 40s, the biggest thing was my energy I had, I no longer felt the need for coffee in the morning or my afternoon pick me up (I'm 3 weeks out and have now switched to decaf coffee because I do like the taste and the warmth of it), I contribute the extra energy to a better quality of sleep as I always felt I was a good sound sleeper but I don't think the quality was there, I'm waking up and remembering/knowing my dreams, I think it's mostly likely due to the release of my tongue tie and it can actually rest where it needs to be, at the top of my mouth. Since the release I haven't really had much of a headache at all, and actually some positive shifting in my mid/lower spine per my chiropractor who I saw after a week from the release and will no more in a month.

I will tell you beside what I have been feeling and noticing in myself the most heartfelt moment for me as a mom was the evening after the release, when my son opened his mouth big and said, "mom, look at how big i can open'' he was so excited and just opened his mouth and pointed. I honestly never knew this was such an issue for him. I can tell his speech is already more clear and he's getting a different type, better quality of sleep as he's more focused during the day and doesn't seem as tired, more relaxed. I don't notice the exhausted look from him after school and he says it's easier to stay focused on what he's doing. I can't wait to continue our journey with you and your knowledge of myofunctional therapy to retrain his breathing, tongue and mouth on how to work properly. Fingers crossed his adenoids will shrink along with this process and it will stop the decay (Cavities) from forming in his teeth which was the main reason we started looking into this process as many providers couldn't answer the question as to "why" my kids were getting so many cavities. Provider after provider blamed our diet, I felt like a failure but also knew deep down it wasn't our diet and there was way more to his cavities. This search led me to learning about the shapes, tongue posture, and airway breathing of the mouth, who knew, such a little thing could cause a multitude of symptoms.

Thank you Amanada & Dr. Carpenter. I appreciate you for listening to us and guiding us through our mouth/teeth healing journey. I'm excited to see what the next year has to offer. If anyone asks would I do this again or recommend it, definitely "yes" but I would also tell them to make sure they do their own research, get the therapy along with it and make sure you're comfortable with the therapist and provider involved.

Thank you both so very much!
