Continuous Care — Supporting a Lifetime of Healthy Smiles
What many people think of as a routine dental cleaning is actually just one part of maintaining excellent oral health. Our Continuous Care appointments provide a comprehensive preventive approach that combines professional cleaning, detailed examinations, early detection, and customized preventive treatments in a single visit.
We believe that prevention is the foundation of long-term oral health. Every appointment is designed to help identify concerns early and protect your teeth and gums.
Our Preventative Services
• Professional Dental Cleanings
Even with excellent brushing and flossing habits, plaque and tartar can accumulate in hard-to-reach areas. Professional cleanings remove these deposits, helping prevent cavities, gum disease, and bad breath while leaving your teeth feeling clean and refreshed.
• Periodontal Maintenance
Patients with a history of gum disease require ongoing care to maintain their oral health. Periodontal maintenance visits go beyond a standard cleaning, focusing on thorough plaque and bacteria removal while closely monitoring the health of your gums and supporting bone structures.
• Digital X-Rays
Digital X-rays allow us to examine areas that cannot be seen during a visual exam, including between teeth, beneath the gumline, and within the jawbone. They expose patients to significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays while helping us detect issues early, often before symptoms develop.
• Oral Cancer Screenings
Complimentary at Every Visit
Early detection plays a critical role in successful treatment outcomes. During every appointment, we perform a quick, comfortable screening of the lips, tongue, cheeks, and throat to identify any unusual changes or potential warning signs.
• Fluoride Varnish
Recommended for Most Patients
This professional-strength fluoride treatment is applied directly to the teeth after cleaning to strengthen enamel, reduce cavity risk, and support the repair of early enamel damage. The application is quick, painless, and beneficial for patients of all ages.
• Dental Sealants
For Children and Adults
Sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth, where cavities commonly develop. By sealing deep grooves and pits, they help prevent food and bacteria from becoming trapped, providing an effective and affordable layer of protection.
• Desensitizing Treatment
If you experience discomfort when eating or drinking hot, cold, or sweet foods, professional desensitizing treatments can help. Applied directly to sensitive areas, these treatments block the pathways that trigger sensitivity and provide longer-lasting relief than many over-the-counter options.
• Curodont®
Curodont is an advanced, minimally invasive treatment designed to address early-stage tooth decay before a cavity fully develops. Using innovative self-assembling peptide technology, it encourages natural remineralization and helps strengthen tooth structure without the need for drilling.
• Custom Night Guards
Grinding or clenching your teeth during sleep can lead to tooth wear, jaw discomfort, and headaches. A custom-made night guard provides comfortable protection by fitting precisely to your teeth, helping prevent damage and reducing strain on the jaw. Unlike over-the-counter alternatives, custom guards are designed specifically for your smile for optimal comfort and effectiveness.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I schedule a Continuous Care visit?
For most patients, a Continuous Care visit every six months is ideal. However, the best schedule depends on your individual needs and risk factors. If you have a history of gum disease, frequent cavities, or other ongoing oral health concerns, we may recommend visits every three to four months. Our goal is to create a personalized care plan that helps prevent problems before they become more serious.
Does dental insurance cover preventive services?
In many cases, yes. Most dental insurance plans cover preventive services such as routine cleanings, diagnostic X-rays, and oral cancer screenings at little to no out-of-pocket cost. Coverage for additional preventive treatments, including fluoride applications, sealants, and custom night guards, varies by provider and plan. Because every policy is different, our team is happy to review your benefits with you before your visit and help you understand your coverage.
Is fluoride safe for adults?
Absolutely. Fluoride is a safe, effective way to strengthen enamel and help protect teeth from decay at any age. Professional fluoride varnish contains a carefully measured amount of fluoride and has been extensively researched for both safety and effectiveness. Adults with a history of cavities, dry mouth, gum recession, or exposed root surfaces often benefit significantly from regular fluoride treatments.
I don't have any tooth pain. Do I still need regular visits?
Yes. Many oral health conditions, including cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer, can develop without noticeable symptoms in their early stages. Waiting until pain occurs often means a problem has become more advanced and may require more extensive treatment. Routine visits allow us to identify and address concerns early, helping you avoid unnecessary discomfort, time, and expense in the future.
What's the difference between a routine cleaning and periodontal maintenance?
A routine dental cleaning, also known as a prophylaxis, is intended for patients with healthy gums and focuses on removing plaque and tartar above and slightly below the gumline. Periodontal maintenance is recommended for patients who have previously received treatment for gum disease. These visits involve more detailed cleaning around the gum pockets, ongoing evaluation of gum health, and closer monitoring to help prevent the disease from returning or progressing. Periodontal maintenance appointments are often scheduled more frequently than routine cleanings.
